d'tense massage therapy
Back in 2004, after one too many chaotic football-season bar shifts, I realized two things:
✦ I needed a career that did not involve babysitting drunk adults, and
✦ I had always been fascinated by how the human body works — and how to help when it doesn’t.
So I walked into massage school, signed up for a 900-hour program, and never looked back.
I’ve been a licensed massage therapist since 2006 in Florida and 2018 in Colorado. Over the years, I’ve worked in auto-injury rehabilitation, survived the world of “fast-food” massage chains, and worked alongside more therapists than I can count. Along the way, I learned a lot about what works, what doesn’t, and what I’m simply not willing to compromise on.
Here’s the thing: every massage therapist has their own style. Mine is therapeutic, intentional, and tailored to the person on my table. I use deep tissue massage and other focused techniques when appropriate, but pressure alone isn’t what makes a massage effective. For me, it’s about finding the approach that works best for each individual.
That said, I also know what my style isn’t. If you’re looking for a soft-as-a-feather, “barely there” kind of massage, I’m probably not your person — and that is okay. I can’t be something I’m not.
The work itself is focused and purposeful. Before every session, we talk about what’s bothering you, what you want from your massage, and what we’re trying to accomplish. From there, I adjust based on your feedback and how your body responds.
After 20 years in this profession, I’ve learned that experience is only part of what makes a good massage. It also takes attention, adaptability, and a willingness to truly listen.
